MANASSAS - Thelma Elizabeth Lewis passed away in Manassas on Friday, May 7, 2004. She was born in Marion, N.C., in 1919 and had been a Peninsula resident since 1951. She had lived with her daughter, Elizabeth, in Manassas for the past five years.

She was a devoted wife and mother and full-time homemaker. She attended business school in the 1940's in Wilmington, N.C. She was a Christian, an avid reader and a believer in education. She nursed her son, Sonny, during his illness and set an example for both her children, instilling in them a strong work ethic, sense of independence and a philosophy of doing the right thing.

This is a sad day for all who knew her. She was truly an angel here on earth and the best mom anyone could ever have.

Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Lee T. Lewis, and son, John 'Sonny' Lewis.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Elizabeth Lewis Fontaine of Manassas; her grandson, Joseph Allen Fontaine III of Fairfax; three nieces, Betty Hollifield Boone of Aiken, S.C., Dolores Hollifield Beachboard of Marion, N.C., and Wanda Hollifield Creason of Marion, N.C.; her nephew, Gene Edward Hollifield of Marion, N.C.; eight great-nieces and nephews and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.
