He was a native of Crozet, Va., and had been a Peninsula resident for 65 years and had been a resident of Poquoson for the past 22 years. He was a loving family man and devoted to his family. He was a Commercial Fisherman and was a member of the Coastal Virginia Waterman's Association and was Baptist.
He was preceded in rest by his parents, Lacey Lee and Thelma A. Dudley.
Surviving members of the family include his wife of 50 years, Dolores Ferguson Dudley; daughters, Deborah Ann Hazlewood and husband, Michael, of Grafton, and Donna Dee Dudley of Poquoson; sons, David Lee Dudley Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Grafton, and Dennis James Dudley and wife, Lenora, of Hampton, and Donald Ray Dudley and wife, Melissa, of Poquoson; grandchildren, Aaron Hazlewood, Michelle Dudley, Amanda Clough, Rodney Dudley, Chelsea and Destiny Dudley, Nicole and Melody Dudley, Chris Wilson; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Faulkner and husband, Buster, of Richmond, and Helen Nist of Poquoson; several nieces and nephews; many "adopted" family members and friends. He is also survived by beloved pets and companions, BT and BJ.
