Rev. Friend William Smith was the son of Rev. Eben Smith. He was the husband of Mary (Esmond) Smith. He was a minister in the New York East Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

On the morning of the 4th instant, the day before the meeting of his Conference, rose in his usual health, and while seated at the breakfast table he suddenly fell upon the floor and was dead. His funeral took place at Bridgeport on Friday, the 7th instant.
