Mrs. Christina Scherf Died Christmas Eve
Mrs. Christina Scherf, aged 79 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Brave, Sr., two and a half miles northwest of town on the Alton road at 11:30 o'clock Christmas Eve. Her death was caused by a complication of diseases.
She had been ill for the past seven weeks and gradually declined. Her condition became worse daily and for the past week she had been very low.
She was born September 11, 1836, and died December 24, 1915. Her birthplace was in Waldeck, Saxon-Hausen, Germany. Her maiden name was Christina Schulaberg.
At the age of 18 years, Mrs. Scherff was married to Henry Scherff. Shortly after the ceremony they removed to oHehl, Hesendarmsteadt. Ten years after their marriage Mr. Scherf was killed in an accident.
Two years later she married William Scherff, a brother to her late husband. He died 17 years later and at the age of 51 years. Mrs. Scherf came to America and settled in Madison county.
She is survived by five children. They are Henry and William, of St. Louis; Christ of Chicago; Fred, of Ft. Russell township and Mrs. Louis Brave, Sr., of Edwardsville. There are seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from the Brave home at 11 o'clock thence to the Eden Evangelical church here at 12:20 o'clock. Rev. H. Rahn, pastor of the church will conduct services. Interment will be in the Woodlawn cemetery.
