Nicholas Joseph Vicchitto earned his angel wings on July 6, 2012 in the home of his loving aunt and uncle Kelly and Allen Shepard. He was born on November 12, 2009 to Christine and Jason Vicchitto of Lebanon.

Nicholas was also raised by his loving grandparents Lorraine and Allen Shepard III of Deep River, and Kelly (Annino) and Allen Shepard IV of Middletown.

Nick is survived by his sisters Myranda Shepard and Cassidy Vicchitto; maternal grandparents Lorraine and Allen Shepard IV of Deep River; paternal grandparents Donna and Ernie Thody of Moodus, Eileen and Joseph Vicchitto of Haddam; as well as many adoring aunts, uncles and cousins.

Nicholas and his sister Cassidy shared a very special bond: listening to One Direction on the kindle, swimming in the pool, sledding in the yard, watching her play basketball, chasing him through the house or just sitting on the kitchen floor, they were always together. The sound of a motorcycle or the sight of a school bus was enough to light up Nick's day.

Nicholas' smile was contagious, and he impacted so many lives during his short time here with us. We are comforted in knowing that when Nick reached the gates of Heaven there were so many open arms to greet him. While Nicholas endured many setbacks due to his hearing impairmen,t it was with the dedication of Ellen Gill of CREC Soundbridge that he blossomed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 11am at Deep River Congregational Church, 1 Church St, Deep River. Burial immediately following at St. Mary's Cemetery, 24 Beach Park Rd., Clinton. Calling hours are Thursday, July 12th from 5-8pm at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations "in honor of Nicholas Vicchitto" can be made to CREC Soundbridge, 123 Progress Drive, Wethersfield CT 06109. Published in The Hartford Courant on July 11, 2012
