Joseph retired first from the Department of the Air Force and then EMCO Corporation after 20 years of dedicated service to both. He also served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII, receiving the Bronze Star, for meritorious action at Leyte Invasion of the Philippine Islands.
His passions throughout life were a love of nature and writing poetry.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Gross Jr.; sisters, Mary, Irene, and Margaret; brothers, Andrew, Frank, and John.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Soledad Gross; daughters, Geraldine Gross, Loretta Twyman, Janet Smith; stepchildren, Holman Seda, Nicki Plotnik; grandchildren, Michele, Joseph, Sonya, Daniel, Michael, Taylor, Nathan, Olivia; step-grandchildren, Davey, Chad, Wade, Benjamin, Daniel; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Clater.
