Marilyn M. Midtbo, 84, of Edgerton, passed away on May 31, 2012, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, close friends and her "Bright Star Angels" following an extended illness. Marilyn, the first of 12 children, was born on April 1, 1928,to Francis and Mabel (Duenn) Beattie of Amberg WI, in 1928. She was proud of her Scottish and German heritage. From an early age she assumed the role of sister, caregiver and mother that would define her personality for the rest of her life. At the age of 15, she moved to Milwaukee to seek opportunity and to help her family. Shortly after her move, she met her partner in life, Stanley Midtbo, whom she has been married to for 66 years. The couple moved to Edgerton, WI, where Marilyn and Stanley laid down their roots and became partners in founding IKI Manufacturing, which over the past 57 years has become one of the most successful aerosol packagers in the world, has employed hundreds of local workers and packages products for some of the most recognizable companies in America. As the company grew, so did the family, as Marilyn gave birth to her beloved children, Larry and Sherry, both of whom have been at her side at every stage in her life. Marilyn was always a very stylish lady, and for many years loved to travel and have fun with her husband and their special friends. Marilyn was engaged in the community and was never afraid to speak up for the things she felt strongly about, especially in her role as Vice President of the Edgerton Hospital Board and in her participation in various other community and Church activities. Actually, Marilyn was never afraid to speak up about anything at all, as those who knew her would tell you, she was always ready to help you with a need or tell you what she thought whether you wanted to hear it or not. Later in life, Marilyn's single greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren, her great-nieces and nephews, and more recently, the great-grandchildren, that brought a smile to her face on a daily basis. For Marilyn, this was what life was about; sharing herself with the people she loved and that loved her. She enjoyed sharing herself especially through cooking and hosting dinners around the kitchen table, for really anyone who wanted to show up. She was always happy to offer a piece of one of her pies with freshly picked berries or at least two helpings of her famous baked beans. For Marilyn, food was an important part of how she loved people. Marilyn had a strong faith, a love of music (especially the Gaither Gospel Band and good old fashion hymns), reading books and always sought to keep her mind sharp and busy. Her desire to care for people as a mother, aunt or friend was well known. Her favorite activities were playing Gin Rummy with Stanly (which she almost always won) and spending time in Marinette County at her "little cabin in the woods." Marilyn never forgot where she came from, or about the kindness people had shown her, and was always there to lift up her family or friends when they needed her, always more concerned about others than herself. She was a special lady and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Stanley of Edgerton; one daughter, Sherry (Charles "Buck") Sweeney of Stoughton; one son, Larry (Julie) Midtbo of Edgerton,; two grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Walker of Stoughton, and Ryun (Cheri) Bibro of
Edgerton; four loving great-grandchildren: Conrad, Madelyn, Isabella and Olena; five sisters: Mary Jane (Bob) Axcell of Edgerton, Jean Ylivisaker of Edgerton, Dorothy Whitaker of Oakland ,OR, Karen (Harry) Mathias of Stephenson, MI, and Debbie (Gary) Edwards of Yelm, WA; one brother, Jack Beattie of Amberg, WI, numerous nieces, nephews and loving neighbors. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Joan Mattison, Marion Espy and Sandy Carter; two brothers: Francis "Bud" Beattie and Robert Beattie.
