Aviation Pioneer. On June 24, 1916, he and Captain Angel María Zuloaga became the first people to fly over the Andes Mountains when they did so in a hydrogen balloon called "Eduardo Newbery".The flight started in Santiago, Chile and finished in Uspallata Valley, Argentina. The flying time was a little more than three hours and they reached a maximum altitude of 8,100 mts. In October 31, 1991 the Argentine Post Office issued a stamp to commemorate that historic crossing.
