Carmilla M. "Connie" Counsell, age 94, of Wabasha, died of heart failure Wednesday, January 29, 2013 at her home.
She was born September 27, 1918 in Staten Island, New York, New York, the daughter of Liberatto and Pasqualina (Carlucci) Venditti. She married Richard A. Counsell September 5, 1942 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plattsburg, NY. The couple lived in Salinas, CA for 15 years before moving to Wabasha in 2000. Mr. Counsell, a distinguished and decorated U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, died February 26, 2010.
Connie was a devoted wife, mother, a grandmother of eight and a great-grandmother of 13. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was very entertaining and she was lots of fun. Everyone in her life came first and she was deeply in love with her husband.
Left to mourn her death are daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jane Evans, Wabasha, MN, Sarah and David Opsahl, Kellogg, MN; grandchildren, Pat, Kris, Kandis, Kasey, Jeremy and Aaron. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard, daughter, Gloria Jean and grandchild, Karey.
Her body will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, beside her husband. A private time for the family will be held at the Abbott Funeral Home prior to shipment of her body to Arlington.
