He applied for his pension on February 10, 1896 as invalid app# 1,174,151 from KY. his widow Susan Annah Ballou applied for his pension on September 19, 1921 app# 1,179,051
states he served with Co. K. 12th KY Infantry. She died October 1921

Elder Joseph Ballou preached at the Christian church Sunday morning. Just 29 years ago to a day before that he preached his first sermon in Stanford. He moved to Lincoln county from Pulaski the day before and was immediately called on to preach. He has preached for that congregation at various times since and was its pastor in 1879, 1880 and 1881. There are only two men in the church now that were on the books when he came here. They are Messrs. James Dudderar and Samuel J. Embry.

Eld. Joseph Ballou preached a most excellent sermon at the Christian church Sunday morning in celebration of his 70th birthday. His topic was "God's Revelation to the Human Family," and he handled it with much force and clearness. Eld. B. was pastor of the Christian church for four years and much good resulted from his labors as such. He occasionally preaches now and whenever he does a good crowd hears him. This grand old man has been a member of the church for 47 years, joining when he lived in Pulaski county. He has preached almost that long. He served in the union army from 1861 to 1864 and preached to his fellow soldiers when the occasion would admit.

Don Victor Ballou, son of Eld. Joseph Ballou, surprised his friends by taking Miss Rachel, the beautiful daughter of J. Frank Kelley, of Danville, to Jeffersonville and making her his wife. A telegram yesterday that the knot had been securely tied by an Indiana official, was the first news many friends had of his intention. The groom is a big hearted, clever fellow and will doubtless prove a worthy scion of a sturdy stock. We heartily congratulate him and his bonnie bride.

Mr. John L. Duncan, a prominent attorney of Toledo, O., and Miss Angie Ballou, were married at 10:30 Wednesday morning at the bride's pretty country home, her father, Eld. Joseph Ballou, officiating. There were no attendants and only a few immediate friends of the family were present. The parlor was beautifully decorated and the bride, attired in a blue cloth suit, showed to her very best advantage. She is an elegant young lady, highly accomplished and will prove a helpmeet fond and true. The groom is a fine gentleman and a good lawyer. He formerly lived at Clifton Forge, Va., where he met Miss Ballou, who taught there. After the marriage a delightful breakfast was elegantly served and the bridal party drove to Stanford and took the train for the North and Northeast, where they will remain some time before going to their home in Toledo. Mrs. Curry, a sister of the groom, accompanied him and attended the wedding.
