REV. PAUL ACHTERMANN
GERMAN VALLEY - Funeral services for the Rev. Paul Herman Achtermann of Aplington, Iowa, who was pastor of Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley for 22 years, was held Tuesday in First Reformed Church in Aplington.
Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
The Rev. Mr. Achtermann died Saturday in his home.
He graduated from Mission House College and Seminary in Plymouth, Wis., in 1924 and was ordained a minister that year.
He also served congregations in Wilton Junction and Sheffield, Iowa and in Paterson N.J.
For many years he served on the Bard of Foreign Missions.
Mr. Achtermann retried from the ministry in 1962 because of ill health. He moved to Aplington in 1971.
Born October 20, 1898, in Plymouth he was the son of the Rev. Herman and Mrs. Lydia (Heyer) Achtermann. On June 18, 1924, he married Minnie Klingenborg of Aplinton.
Surviving are his widow, a son Nathan of Aplinton, three brothers, Ariel of Lancaster, Pa., Mark of Ackley, Iowa and Adiel of Bucyrus, Ohio and four sisters, Miriam Fekkers of Aplington, Mrs. Esther Sharpe of Columbus, Neb., and Mrs. Ruth Broderson and Mrs. Noami Loupee, both of Newton Iowa. He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
