Survivor of the sinking of the Italian passenger liner Andrea Doria.

Celestina P. ‘‘Celesta'' Caputo, 92, died at 12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born May 29, 1915, in Warren, a daughter of Dominic and Angelina Denetes Pagano.

She moved to Italy in 1919, moving back to Warren in 1935. She retired from Esposito and Cornicelli Cleaners, on Market Street, where she had been a seamstress for 38 years.

She was a member of St. James Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, knitting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Celesta was a survivor of the Andrea Doria, which sank following a collision on July 25, 1956.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana (Richard) Belanger of Howland; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Belanger and Gina Dooley; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas and Sarah Marie Dooley; and two sisters, Antoinette Esposito and Sophia Soletro, both of Vieste, Italy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene ‘‘Gene'' Caputo, whom she married June 12, 1937 and who passed away Jan. 10, 1991. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by aunt and uncle, Matilda and Paul Capito, who raised her; four brothers, Leonard, Antonio, Leonardo and Len Pagano; and two sisters, Catherine Pagano and Josephine Bario.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Church, with celebrant Fr. Charles W. Crumbley, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. service at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel. Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Pineview Memorial Park.
