Feminist Leader and Suffragist. She was the daughter of US Congressman Ebenezer Hill and his wife, Mary Eileen Mossman Hill. She graduated from Vassar College in 1906. She was a pioneer in the fight for women's right to vote. She was Chairman of the National Woman's Party and instrumental in fighting to include women's history in the curriculum. She was a strong advocate for the Nineteenth Amendment and the Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution. She organized many marches and events, including the Woman Suffrage Parade of 1913. She broke with other party leaders to advocate for the inclusion of Black women in this and other events during a time when the women's suffrage movement in the US was divided by racism.
In 1921, she married judge and minister Albert Levitt but did not take his surname. They divorced in 1956. (He remarried to widow Lilla Cabot Grew Moffat in 1956) In later years, she resided with their only daughter, Mrs Leslie Latham. She died suddenly from a heart attack. Her remains were willed to Yale Medical School, and her papers were donated to Vassar.
