Of Lansing Bernard, age 83 passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 7, 2013. Bernard was born Oct. 1, 1929 in Lansing, MI the son of Harold & Edna (Richmond) Gilpin. He graduated from Resurrection Catholic High School and the Lansing Business University. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked at Fisher Body in Lansing for 39 plus years. After retirement he loved traveling with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Catherine, sister Ruth Gilpin, and brother Lowell. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Patricia (Burns) Gilpin, daughter Cynthia, son Gregory, sisters Donna Romanek, Mary Gilpin, Margaret Hannah, Janet Cousineau, Dawn (John) Balog; brothers, Leo Gilpin, James (Sheila) Gilpin, Michael Gilpin, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude for all the care and kindness Bernard received with Great Lake Hospice. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Lansing, MI with Rev. Fr. John Klein as celebrant. Interment will follow at Delta Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 & 6-8PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel 6020 West Saginaw Hwy, where the rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Bernie. Condolences can be made at www.palmerbush.com.
