Walter "Turk" Broda
Birth: May 15, 1914
Death: Oct. 17, 1972

Professional Hockey Player. A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Broda played for teams in the IHL, NHL, MAHA, MJHL, M-Cup, MHL-Sr, MOHL, NNDHL, and the X-Games hockey leagues. At 5'09", and 165lbs, Broda played the position of Goalie for the Brandon Athletics from 1931 to 1932, Brandon Native Sons from 1932 to 1933, Winnipeg Monarchs from 1933 to 1934, St. Michael's Majors from 1933 to 1934, Detroit Farm Crest from 1934 to 1935, Detroit Olympics from 1935 to 1936, Toronto Maple Leafs from 1936 to 1943, 1945 to 1952, Victoria Navy from 1942 to 1943, and the San Diego Skyhawks from 1942 to 1945. Broda was a member of the First All-Star Team Goalie in 1941 and 1948, Second All-Star Team Goalie in 1942, and the recipient of the Vezina Trophy in 1940-1941 and 1947-1948. Broda was also Head Coach of the London Nationals from 1966 to 1968 in the OHA, and the Quebec Aces from 1969 to 1970 in the AHL. He was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and the Hockey
Hall of Fame in 1967 as a Player. (bio by: K)
