Mrs. Miller, 93, of Charlotte passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Mecklenburg Health Care Center with her daughter at her side.
She was born January 24, 1917 in Maryville, TN the daughter of the late Rev. Samuel Marion Dunn and Jenny Mae Knight Dunn. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carlos C. Miller; and daughter, Billie Phillips.
Mrs. Miller had a genuine love for teaching children in kindergarten and first grade. She taught school all over the world, and served as the director of Preschool Early Childhood Center in Fayetteville, NC. She attended Washington College in Cleveland, TN and later continued her education at East Carolina University.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonja Miller Elliott and husband Joseph; grandchildren, Gary Phillips, Jim Phillips and Craig Thrift, and a great grandchild, Clay Phillips.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 200 W. Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mecklenburg Health Care Center for their loving care of Mrs. Hazel Dunn Miller.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, c/o The Television Ministry, 200 W. Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
