US Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1826 and proceeded to practice in a legal firm in Warrenton, Virginia. In 1843, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-eighth Congress, serving until 1845. After his term, he was delegate to the Virginia State constitutional convention of (1850-51) and resumed the practice of law until his death at age 62.
