Jim worked for the Bi-State Transit System in St. Louis, Missouri. He retired in 2004. He also was an orchardist.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brussels. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Brussels American Legion.
At the time of his death at his home, Jim was 69 years, 3 months and 19 days old. He was survived by his wife; 2 sons, Bradley J. Macauley of Golden Eagle, Illinois, and John J. Macauley of Maryville, Illinois; 2 daughters-in-law; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Shirley Macauley, of Naperville, Illinois; and 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Mary James of St. Louis, and Barbara and Bob Bird-Opitz of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by 2 nephews, Michael Macauley and Danny James.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on 15 Feb 2013 at Hanks-Gress Funeral Home in Brussels. A prayer service took place that evening at 5 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meppen. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery with full military rites.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Re-Building Fund or to St. Mary's Catholic School in Brussels in lieu of flowers.
