The dates above come from his U. S. Headstone Application for Military Veterans, 1925-1963, a collection found on Ancestry.com. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII. The headstone was ordered by his widow, Mary E. Walker of 4135 Forest Drive, Columbia, S. C. His Army Enlistment Record, also found on Ancestry.com, lists his birth in North Carolina and his enlistment in New Jersey where he was a bartender at the time of enlistment, 28 Feb 1941.

Contributed by Find A Grave contributor Mary Kiely, granddaughter: Mr. Walker had a daughter Veronica Marie born in New Jersey in 1939. Veronica's mother was Adelaide Ellen Durkin.
Mr. Walker served in WWII but never left American soil, his injury was from falling off the back of a truck. He was a bartender.

I could not find an obituary for him in either The State or The Columbia Record.
