Baker's Creek Tragedy:

Major George Newell Powell and 39 others were killed at Baker's Creek, MacKay, Australia shortly after take off. There was one lone survivor.

Australia has a memorial in honor of those killed and the United States recently set up a memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.

Major George Powell is interned at Arlington National Cemetery along with Anna Mae Shaw Powell and son, 2LT John Winthrop Powell who died Nov. 1, 1943 when his plane crashed in Michigan.
