Mary Louise Small Lay

MOUNT HOPE — Surrounded by her loving family, Mary Louise Small Lay, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Born Nov. 29, 1922, at Boone in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late John Ernest and Zoie Wood Small.

She retired from Beckley Hospital where she was a clerical worker and nurse aide. She was also a homemaker and a loving mother.

Mrs. Lay was a Christian and a member of Maple Fork Baptist and a member of Winolia Chapter No. 59 OES where she was worthy matron from 1965 to 1966.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Kenneth Lay Sr. on Jan. 6, 1988.

She was also preceded by three brothers, John Small, James Small and Alfred Small; a sister, Elizabeth Williams; and a half brother, Lowell Pyatt.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jesse K. Lay Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Mount Hope; a grandson, Casey Lay, and a granddaughter, Lesley Lay Phillips and husband, Joey, all of Mount Hope; and two great granddaughters, Sydney and Tess Phillips.

Service will be Monday, May 14, beginning with Eastern Star rites at 2:30 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Robert Barley officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Jack Wygal, Robert Acord, Joseph Lorenzino, Bobby Acord, Jerry Acord and Joey Phillips.
