Katherine Anne Beard Bond, 99, of Pana, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. She was born July 16, 1913 in Ford County, IL. Katherine was the daughter of Ruth Sullivan and Morris Beard. She was married to Carroll Bond from August 8, 1933 until his death on July 17, 1992. They were blessed with one daughter, Ruth Anne Bond of Bloomsburg, PA. Katherine had two brothers, Melvin & Robert, and three sisters: Aileen, Irma & Mary. Katherine graduated from Pana High School in 1931. She worked for the Pana School district for 24 years as a cook and dietician, and was a chef at the Pana Country Club. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, cooking, gardening and traveling. Katherine took up oil painting in her 80s. In addition to pinochle, Katherine loved to play scrabble. She traveled most of the New England states as well as Florida, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, California, Wyoming, Minnesota, Canada, Mexico and rarely missed a trip with the senior citizens of Pana. Katherine belonged to the Christian County Democrat Women's Organization, Pinochle Club and Pana Area Senior Citizens, and loved playing the washboard with the Faded Roses ‘n Buds Kitchen Band. On Katherine's 95th birthday she rode on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle down the streets of Pana. In 2011 she was crowned the Senior Center Valentine Queen. Katherine was a resident of Heritage Health, Pana and a member of the Pana Christian Church.
In addition to her daughter, Katherine is survived by brother and sister-in-law: Raymond and Effie Mae Bond, Pana; nephews: Richard Beard and wife Cathy, Pana; Dennis Pulliam and wife Bonnie, Decatur; and niece, Becky Billiter and husband Roy, Pana; as well as many other loving nieces and nephews and their families, and longtime friends: Linda and Gerry Micek, Pana; Maureen L. Mulligan, Bloomsburg PA; & Susan Hibbs, Lamoine Beach, Maine.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. with Joe Mollet officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
