World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Royal Dragoons, British Army. In actions near Epehy, France, on June 25, 1917, Second Lieutenant Dunville was with a unit of the Royal Engineers engaged in the demolition of the enemy's wire. To ensure the absolute success of the work to be done, Lieutenant Dunville put himself between an N.C.O. of the Royal Engineers and the enemy's fire. Although severely wounded, his effort enabled to complete a work. He also continued to direct his men in the wire-cutting and general operations. The next day he died form his wounds. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on July 31, 1917.
