Lawrence S. Hopkins, 102 years, of Edgerton, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Park View Nursing Center, Edgerton. Lawrence was born November 22, 1910 in Piatt County, Illinois, the son of the late William L. and Viola E. (Stewart) Hopkins. He married Alta A. Yoh on October 31, 1936, and she preceded him in death on August 4, 1974. He then married Edith N. (Shively) Mosier on December 10, 1976, and she survives. Lawrence was employed in the maintenance department by New York Central – Penn Central Railroad, where he was labeled with the nickname of "Hoppy" for 42 years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bryan where formerly served as a Trustee and on the Administrative Board. Lawrence also enjoyed going to the Bryan Senior Center.

Surviving is his wife, Edith of Edgerton; one son, Rev. Larry (Sharon) Hopkins of Lima, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Debra Hopkins of Rudolph, Ohio; two stepsons, Lowell (Judy) Mosier of Bryan and Garry Mosier also of Bryan; five grandchildren, six step grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alta; one son, Rev. Robert Hopkins, his stepdaughter, Audrey Smethurst, one brother, Ralph Hopkins and two sisters, Hazel Baltosser and Faye Cox.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services for Lawrence S. Hopkins will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in Faith United Methodist Church, 225 East Butler Street, Bryan with Pastor Jeff Dye officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer, Ohio. Visitation for Lawrence will also be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
