Esther Mary (Manlick) Schrimpf, age 88, Rockwood, went to her eternal reward on Friday morning, March 14, 2008, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Born on Feb. 7, 1920, in Auburndale, to Louis and Anna (Knier) Manlick. At the age of 18, she moved to Manitowoc, where she became a trained attendant at Holy Family Hospital. It was there that she met a patient, Joseph H. Schrimpf, who she married on Feb. 14, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburndale. The young couple made their home in Rockwood, where she has lived for the past 66 years, being the longest living resident of Rockwood. For a short period of time, Esther managed the Schrimpf Restaurant in Rockwood and later, with her husband Joe, they owned and operated Interstate Petroleum Installation Company for more than 25 years, retiring in 1983.

A long time member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek where she was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, she was also a member of the Rockwood Homemakers. Esther believed in giving back to the community. She loved and took an active part in the establishment of the boundaries for the Rockwood children to be in the Manitowoc School District, as well as the installation of streetlights in Rockwood. She was also one of the team leaders for the American Heart Assocation. A strong, independent and proud lady, she helped along side her husband, build their home in 1952, which she continued to maintain and live in until she died. Esther loved gardening, having both lovely flowers, as well as a vegetable garden. However, her greatest joy was her family, being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Schrimpf was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years: Joseph H. Schrimpf; sisters and brothers: Paul (Marie) Manlick; Eleanor (Norbert) Goldbach; Walter (Josephine) Manlick; and Alice (John) Franz.

Early visitation was at The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, with a concluding prayer service, as led by the Deacon Grant Holt, her son-in-law. Visitation then continued on Wednesday morning, March 19, 2008, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek, from 10 a.m.
until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial was Reverend Paul Paider. Burial followed at St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery. Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center of Manitowoc, ministered.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Chaplain staff as well as the 5th floor nursing staff of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center for their care for the family, as well as their compassionate care of Esther.
