Colonel, Royal Controller and Private Secretary. After serving as an officer in the Royal Artillery, he became private secretary and financial controller to Princess Maud of Wales, daughter of the future King Edward VII, after her 1896 marriage to Prince Charles of Denmark, continuing after Charles became King Haakon VII of Norway in 1905. Knollys retired in 1919.
