NORMA BALZAN

Norma L. Balzan, age 95, 930 E. Clifford St., Plymouth, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 20, 2008, at Plymouth Care Center, where she was a resident for 13 years.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1912, in the town of Mitchell, a daughter of the late William J. and Bertha (Moehr) Kundo. She graduated from Sheboygan County Teachers Normal School and Marian College. She taught in Sheboygan County; her last school was Waldo Elementary School.

She married John Phipps on June 20, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1964. Norma then married Orlando J. Balzan on June 22, 1964. The couple moved to Whitelaw in 1973, returning to Plymouth in 1991. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1992.

Norma was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth where she was also a member of Christian Mothers; President of the Sheboygan County Teachers Association; a member of the Sheboygan Falls Teacher's Association; and the Saturday Night Couple's Bowling League. She also enjoyed quilting, golfing, snowmobiling and traveling.

Survivors include two daughters: Mollie K. (Howard) Bandy , Linda L. (Roger) Balzan; one daughter-in-law, Judy Phipps; eight grandchildren: Debbie (Clarence) Filipiak, Russ (Kim) Balzan, Pam (John) Petermann, Becky (Pat) Zeeveld, Michelle (Jim) Anderson, Greg (Lisa) Phipps, Mike (Shawn) Lehrke, Susie (Shawn) Klein; thirteen great grandchildren: Adam, Caleb, Tony, Nick, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Jack, Tristan, Becky, Tim, Madison, Connor, Owen; one sister, Elaine (Fred) Rials; one brother-in-law, Herb Schulz.

She was preceded in death by one son: John F. Phipps; one brother: William Kundo; six sisters and their husbands: Leona Kundo; Sylvia (Dutch) Talbot; Arline (Arnie) Janke; Wilma (Ed) Fein; Gertrude (Gerald) Dewsz; and Helen Schulz; three brothers-in-law: Anthony, Alex and Evo Balzan; two sisters-in-law: Helen Balzan and Mary Zucchi.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Suchon Funeral Home, Plymouth. The Very Rev. Dennis Van Beek, pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth, will officiate. Entombment will be in the Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Saturday, May 4, 2008, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

A memorial fund is being established in Norma's name.

NORMA BALZAN
