OLIVER J. BARRETT

Oliver "Ollie" J. Barrett, age 83, of 821 Green St., Manitowoc, died Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2008, at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.

Ollie was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Two Rivers, son of the late James and Mae (Mac Donald) Barrett. He attended the Two Rivers Vocational School for the machinist trade, graduating with a Gas Turbine School certification and Atomic Research Specialist Training from Los Alamos, N.M.

Ollie was a member of the U.S. Navy 8th Naval Construction Battalion, serving with the Sea-Bee's in the South Pacific Theater Island tour and Iwo Jima for nearly four years.

On June 25, 1949, he married the former Pat Beyer at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Mishicot.

He was employed with Manitowoc Engineering as a machinist/process engineer for 28 years, retiring in 1987.

Ollie was a former member of the Manitowoc Eagles Club Aeries No. 706 and was an honorary deputy sheriff of Manitowoc County receiving a 25-year award in 2003.

Ollie was preceded in death by two brothers: Warren Barrett and Robert "Pete" Barrett; and two sisters- and brothers-in-law: Dorothy LaBine, Betty Kirchen, Carl McKeller and Vernon Kirchen.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Bob Weber, chaplin for Hospice Advantage, with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc, at a later date. Military rites will be accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post 659 and the U.S. Navel Sea Bee Charles Kiser Island X14 Chapter, both of Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 3 to 7 p.m. (TONIGHT) Sunday, Jan. 27. Friends may also call at the funeral home Monday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.

The family would like to express a heart-warming word of appreciation for the staff of the Hospice Advantage of Sheboygan and the caring staff of River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. They would also like to include a special word of gratification for the thoughtfulness that has been extended by The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc.
