Funeral services for Joe McPhail, 58, retired pharmacist of Magee, were held February 8 at the First Baptist Church with burial in the Magee City Cemetery. Mims Mitchell of Magee was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Travis Williams, Jimmy Rogers, Cliff Kelly, Larry Ivy, John Houston, Henry Dawkins, Jack Berry and Jimmy Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Busby, Bob Allen, Harold Stamps, Dwight Carr, Dee Lee, Sandy Adcock, Myron Lee, Johnny Campbell, and Homer Powell.

Mr. McPhail, a native of Jeff Davis County, died February 6, of cancer at his home. He was a graduate of Prentiss High School, Jones Junior College and Howard College, now Sandford University. He was manager and owner of Choctaw Drugs in Magee of 28 years.

He was a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association and the First Baptist Church of Magee where he was a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. He served as city alderman from 1973 to 1981, during which time he was mayor pro-tem.

Survivors include his wife, Diane McPhail of Magee; three daughters, Mrs. Dee Dee Hooks of Mendenhall, Mrs. Jodi Henry of Pontotoc, Mississippi and Mrs. Angel Brister of Watertowne, New York; five grandchildren, Spencer and Sutton Hooks, Trey and Ryan Henry and Diana Brister; two sisters, Mrs. Grace King and Mrs. Addie Mae Coulter of Prentiss.
