VIOLA E. CHERNEY

Viola E. Cherney, age 92, formerly of 1538 S. 36th Street in Manitowoc, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1913, in Denmark, daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Wessly) Zachek Sr. Viola attended the Denmark School System.

On Nov. 24, 1937, she married Louis J. Cherney at All Saints Catholic Church, Denmark. He preceded her in death Feb. 9, 2006.

Viola was employed as a factory worker at National Tinsel & Aluminum Specialty Co. for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Carol and Robert Neuman; a son and daughter-in-law: David M. and Cathey (Stahl) Cherney, all of Manitowoc; a sister: Evelyn Kotche, Janesville; 10 grandchildren: Randy Neuman, Two Rivers; Robert (Wendy) Neuman; Lori Neuman and special friend, Mario Otero; Debbie (Bill) Nicholson; Julie Neuman and special friend, Randy Baeckman; Jason (Jaime) Cherney; Tanya (Paul) Pautz; Derrick (Carrie) Cherney, all of Manitowoc; Lorie (Cherney) Bell, Nebraska; David E. Cherney, Two Rivers; nine great-grandchildren: Brad, Justin and Kayla Neuman; Billy and Jessica Nicholson; Travis Otero: Megan and Jackson Cherney, all of Manitowoc; Andy Pautz, Two Rivers; and one great-great-grandson: Chase. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years: Louis, who passed away Feb. 9 of this year; her parents: Frank and Julia (Vesely) Zachek; three brothers: Frank Jr., Ben and Joe; and a great-grandson: Jacob.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc with entombment of the cremated remains at Knollwood Mausoleum. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of Tower 2 at St. Mary's Home and especially Debbie Nicholson (granddaughter) to the wonderful care given "Grandma" during her 13 months at the home.
