U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator, Alabama Governor. He attended William and Mary College, graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a medical degree in 1801 and proceeded to practice medicine in Petersburg, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, (1803-05). In 1807, he was elected as a Democratic Republican to the Ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Thomas Spalding and reelected to the Tenth and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1813. He was then elected as a Democratic Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William H. Crawford, serving (1813-16). After his term, he moved to Alabama Territory in 1817 and President Monroe appointed him the first Territorial Governor of Alabama, serving until his death suffered in fall from a horse at age 38. His brother Thomas Bibb, was president of the Alabama Senate and was elected Alabama Governor. The Bibb counties in Alabama and Georgia are named for William Wyatt Bibb.
