Lucia Augusta DuVinage was the daughter of Jacques Pierre and Lucia Robson DuVinage and the wife of William Schley Howard.

On October 27, 1904, Lucia Augusta DuVinage married Wm. Schley Howard in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They had several children: William Schley, Pierre DuVinage, and Jacqueline Howard.


MRS. W.S. HOWARD DIES; DECATUR CIVIC LEADER

Mrs. William Schley Howard, 76, Decatur Civic Leader, died Sunday in a private hospital. She was the wife of the late William Schley Howard, Atlanta attorney and former US congressman from the 5th district.

Mrs. Howard, the former Lucia DuVinage, was a leader in educational and youth activities in Decatur for 25 years, serving on the Decatur Board of Education from about the mid-1920s to 1946. She served a two-year term on the Georgia Board of Education.

She was one of the pioneers in Parent-Teacher Association work in Decatur, helping organize the group in the 1920s and serving as Decatur PTA Council president.

She was also a founder of the Decatur Recreation Board and was a member of Decatur Presbyterian Church.

Born in Austin, Tex., Mrs. Howard grew up in Texas and Mexico City and was graduate from the National Conservatory of Music, Evanston, Ill. Her father, Jacques Pierre DuVinage, published a chain of newspapers in Texas.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William T. Edwards of Atlanta, and two sons, Pierre Howard of Atlanta, and William S. Howard, Jr. or Decatur.

Graveside services will be held at 4:30pm Monday at the Decatur Cemetery, Dr. J. Davison Philips and Dr. Dick H. Hall officiating.
