Among his books of poetry are "Turning Point" in 1931, "The Cistern" in 1932, "Mythistorema" in 1935, "Logbook" in 1940, "Thrush" in 1947, and "Three Secret Poems" in 1966. Seferis was born in Smyrna, Asia Minor, and educated in Athens and Paris. He joined the Greek foreign service in 1926 and held many diplomatic posts overseas. From 1953 to 1956 he was Foreign Minister to Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq, and served as Royal Greek Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1957 until his retirement in 1961. Seferis' work has been translated into English by Henry Miller and Lawrence Durrell, among others. His "Collected Poems, 1924-1955" appeared in 1967.
