Mr. Eli J. Hessel, 91, formerly of 314 Riverview Drive, Manitowoc, died early Tuesday evening, November 18, 1986, at Park Lawn Nursing home, Manitowoc. Private family services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Rev. Robert Hays will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Mr. Hessel was born June 13, 1895, in the Town of Montpelier, Kewaunee County, son of the late John and Margaret Lain Hessel. He attended schools in Kewaunee. He married the former Anna Dworak on September 7, 1921, at Michigan. Mr. Hessel was a Machinist Foreman for Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company. He was a member of Machinist Union No. 516 and a member of VFW Post 659. Mr. Hessel served in the Armed Forces during World War I in France. Survivors include his wife, Anna of Manitowoc; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorraine Uek and Sylvia and Eugene Wenndorf, all of Manitowoc; a sister, Harriet Ruttner of Manitowoc; two grandchildren and a great grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. There will be no Thursday evening visitation at the funeral home. The family requests no flowers or memorials. Jens Funeral Home of Manitowoc assisted the family with arrangements.
