Joseph J. Johanek, 59, of 1122 Windate St., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening, September 6, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parkside Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo J. Schmitt. Entombment will be in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth.
Mr. Johanek was born here Aug. 19, 1922, at Manitowoc, son of Mary Yanda Johanek and the late Jacob Johanek. He was graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941, then enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, where he served from September, 1941, to December, 1945. Following his return to Manitowoc, he was employed with Gould Inc., until the present time.
He married Marie Wallander Oct. 12, 1943, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clark Mills.
Mr. Johanek was a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Holy Name Society of the church and Third Order of St. Francis.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Daniel and Patricia Johanek and Edward and Karen Johanek of Appleton and John and Tina Johanek and Jerome and Lori Johanek of Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Joseph Parma of Waukesha; his mother, Mrs. Mary Johanek of Manitowoc; a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Joseph Steeber of Manitowoc; four grandchildren; his father-in-law, Edward Wallander of Manitowoc and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
His father and mother-in-law preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock this Tuesday afternoon. A prayer service will be at 8 o'clock led by Father Schmitt.
