ERWIN I. KOCIAN

Erwin I. Kocian, age 80, a resident of the Wisteria Haus, formerly of 2025 29th St., Two Rivers, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2000 at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 23, 2000 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Randy Van Ert will officiate at the service with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

Erwin was born August 1, 1919 in Two Rivers, son of the late Emil and Ella Lehrmann Kocian. He attended schools in Two Rivers where he was a 1937 graduate of Washington High School. On February 17, 1942 he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1945.

Erwin was married to Rhoda L. Wachtel on November 2, 1946, in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death March 29, 1996.

He was employed by various local contractors as a carpenter including Hoffman Brothers of Two Rivers and Hamann Construction of Manitowoc, retiring in 1982. He was very proud of being a member of over 50 years of the Greater Fox Valley District Council of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, AFL-CIO. Erwin was a long time faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees including the buildings/grounds committee and served as past treasurer of the church. He was a devoted father and cherished times spent with his children, his sons-in-law and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Thomas Potratz, Brookfield, Wis., Catherine and John Burwell, Rome City, Ind., Margaret and Robert Smerchek, Racine, Wis.; three grandchildren, Adam Burwell, Meredith and Elizabeth Smerchek; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Joan Kocian, Manitowoc; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Riley Dilley, San Antonio, Texas.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elton Patrick Kocian.

Friends may call at Calvary Lutheran Church after 10 am Friday until the time of service at 11 am. There will be no Thursday evening visitation. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church. Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
The Kocian family extends a very sincere thank you to the entire staff of the Wisteria Haus for all the kindness, support and loving care given to Erwin during his years as a resident.
