KENNETH EARL KORTE (1924-2005)

Mr. Kenneth E. Korte, age 80, of 4741 Vista Road, Manitowoc, entered eternal rest Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the family residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1033 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc, with the Rev. David Rosenow officiating. Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum with military rites accorded by the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88.

Ken was born June 29, 1924 in Sheboygan County. He was the son of the late Earl and Edna Miller Korte. He was confirmed at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 10, 1938.

Ken graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1942. He joined the United States Army on June 6, 1944 and served overseas during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 75th infantry and received the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Award. Ken was honorably discharged June 15, 1946. Upon returning to Manitowoc after his tour of duty, Ken was employed at Burger Boat, then later worked at Aluminum Specialty, Imperial Eastman and retired in 1988 from Wisconsin Fittings in Two Rivers, as plant superintendent.

On Feb. 14, 1948, he married Delores Schrank at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Ken was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was the past president and secretary of the congregation along with serving on many other committees over the years. He was also a member of the 75th Infantry Association, Rhin and Danube Association and the Battle of the Bulge Association.

Ken is survived by his wife of 57 years: Delores; son and daughter-in-law: David and Nona Korte, Manitowoc; daughter and son-in-law: Kathleen Ann and Daniel Otto, Manitowoc; brother and sister-in-law: Earl and Blanche Korte, Manitowoc; one sister: Marian Schrank, Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Chad (Stephanie) Korte and Kristen (Steig) Schmidt; three great-grandchildren: Mallory and Cole Schmidt; Blake Korte; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends surviving.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Willard Korte; and one sister: Mildred Timm.

Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and then at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. Memorials would be appreciated to First German Evangelical Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
