Katherine Holt Hamm-Wesley, 91 years of age, departed this life and entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Katherine was born on February 2nd, 1922 in Somerset, Kentucky, daughter of the late James Madison and Merta Lee Farmer Holt. Katherine taught kindergarten to hundreds of children at the First United Methodist Church in Somerset for 42 years. Katherine was well-traveled and took numerous trips with Senior Friends. She loved to cook and host family gatherings. Additionally, she had a "green thumb" and enjoyed gardening. She was an especially gifted quilter and made numerous quilts in her lifetime beginning when her oldest son went to Vietnam.
Katherine was survived by one son, David (and Celeste) Hamm of Lancaster, Kentucky; one daughter, Marlene (and Bob) Clark of Lexington, Kentucky; one step-daughter, Elizabeth "Shan" Bacon of Nashville, Tennessee; one step daughter-in-law, Gen Wesley of Somerset, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Scott (and Laura) Hamm, Bob (and Carin) Clark, William (and Kim) Clark, Mark (and Tina) Hamm, Jack Hamm, and Briana Randolph; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Russell Holt of Somerset, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Madison and Merta Lee Holt; two husbands, Marlon G. Hamm and Rev. Ralph G. Wesley; one son, Gary Hamm; three brothers, Roy E. Holt, Varna Holt, and Delvin Holt; and one sister, Edna Calhoun.
Visitations were held on Sunday, April 6th, 2013 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and again on Monday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory with Rev. Terry Reffett and Jim Byrd officiating.
Interment followed in the Somerset City Cemetery.
