Donald Eugene Tuxhorn, 80, died Friday, March 15, 2013, of multiple organ failure at St. John's Hospice Care.

He was born in Springfield, IL, on March 18, 1932, to Blanche and William Tuxhorn. He married Dorothy Jean Jackson on Feb. 28, 1954; she died Oct. 15, 2012.

Don was a Springfield High School graduate. After spending his younger years working on farms west of Springfield, he worked for Capitol Plumbing and Heating, Illinois Plumbing and Heating, Terry Tuxhorn Construction, Farm Service, and other jobs. He retired in 1995 as a mailman for Springfield School District 186.

Don was a member of Sangamon County Rural Youth and Sangamon County 4-H, and raised championship pigs in his youth. He was a little league baseball coach and manager. He enjoyed singing for many years in the Lincolnland Barbershop Chorus. He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield, and regularly volunteered for duties and projects there.

He enjoyed traveling with Dorothy, gardening, helping friends on their farms, and watching NASCAR races and Chicago Cubs games on TV. He was an avid bowler, and bowled in leagues until his death.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and Harold, and sister, Velma (Gaffigan).

He is survived by his sons: Keith and Kent.and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Farmington Cemetery in Farmingdale.
