Musician. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Hester was the drummer and a member of the popular group Split Enz (1983 to 1985), and then helped found and form Crowded House (1985 to 1996) with Neil Finn. In 1983, he joined Split Enz and played on their "Conflicting Emotions" album, and two others before the group broke up in 1985. The group had such recordings as "Message to My Girl," "Strait Old Line," "Bullet Brain and Cactus," and "Bon Voyage." After the breakup of Split Enz in 1985, Hester helped form the musical group Crowded House with Neil Finn. The group, who were together for 11 years, went on to record a number of hits and recordings which included "Don't Dream It's Over," "Something So Strong," "That's What I Call Love," and "Now We're Getting Somewhere," among many others. After the group disbanded in 1996 for good, Hester formed another group in 1997 called Largest Living Things, and released two albums with them, going on to play gigs in Australia. Hester also played with the band Tarmac Adam and was host of "The Music Max Sessions" for Australia's cable music news channel Music Max. He also was in the hit band that started in 1991, the Wiggles, where Paul played Paul the cook.
