Sherla Juanita "Shirley" (Frazier) Oaks

GATE CITY, Va. -Shirley Frazier Oaks was granted her Christmas wish when she went to be with her Lord and Savior and her soul mate, Howard Oaks. She left this earthly home on Dec. 19, 2008.
She was the most loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend that the world has ever known. She was employed by Scott County School Systems for many years. Shirley was a member of Blairs Chapel.
She was married to the love of her life for 61 years, Howard Oaks who passed away on Dec. 1st of this year.
She was preceded in death by Bower Renda Frazier, mother; Lawrence Lee Frazier, father; Paul Oaks, son; Henry Frazier, brother; Maggie Tipton, sister; Willie Ruth Quillen, sister; Ima Jean Frazier, sister; and Geneva Deaver, sister.
She is survived by her four sons, Earnie Oaks (Kingsport), Mike Oaks and wife, Sherry (Church Hill), Bobby Oaks and wife, Terry (Gate City) and Jeff Oaks and wife, Loretta (Gate City). She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Dell Tunnel, Allie "Fair" Blair and Nancy "Jane" Ketron. She had 13 grandchildren, Glenn, Krystal, Danny, Kim and her husband, Chris, Carrie and her husband, Matt, Becky, Brandy and her husband, J.R., Brittany, Allen, Jennifer, Tara, and Cody. She had nine great-grandchildren, Zack, Jaden, Luke, Alex, Hailey, Luke Wallen, Carter Sloan, Christopher and Kaylee. She had two more great-grandchildren on the way; a sister-in-law, Helen Brooks and her husband, Kelly of Gate City. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. or friends may also call anytime at the residence.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 Hwy. 23 N, Weber City, Va., with Pastor Jerry Hensley officiating, along with Jennifer Oaks and Brittany Oaks giving a eulogy.
Granddaughters will provide the music.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at Holston View Cemetery.
Glenn Oaks, Danny Wallen, Allen Oaks, Cody Oaks, Bill Pearcy, Jack Pearcy, Tommy Tipton and B.K. Addington will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Loretta and Tara Oaks for the special care that they gave Shirley.
Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Oaks family.
