ROANOKE, Va. - Jack Clifton Oaks, 75, entered into rest Tuesday (April 4, 2006) at Salem Va. Center, Salem, Va.

He was born in Scott County, Va. July 10, 1930 to the late Robert Clarence and Callie Ethel Smith Oaks. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Oaks; brothers, Bob, Bud, Gene, Jimmy, Emmitt and Don Oaks.

Mr. Oaks retired from the U.S. Army; three tours in Korea and four tours in Vietnam.

Survivors include one brother, Wayne Oaks, Kingsport; two sisters, Betty Ward, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mary Dennison, Weber City, Va.; special friend, Pete Alls, Roanoke, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev.Jim Patterson, the Rev. Larry Spivey and the Rev. Kevin Morris officiating.

Music will be provided by the Greenvale Missionary Baptist Church Choir: Sylvia Kelly, Carol Smith, Wanda Sensabaugh, Donnie Sensabaugh and Terry Anderson.

Military graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va., with the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and #265. The family will meet at 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Lane, Eddie Oaks, Ester Baker and Wayne Oaks.

Honorary pallbearers will be member of the the Scott County Life Saving Crew.

Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
