December 21, 1943, the 101st Cavalry Regiment reorganized into the 101st Cavalry Group comprised of the 101st & 116th Cavalry Recon Squadrons. He was assigned to Troop C, 116th Recon Squadron, 101st Cavalry Group. He deployed to England on, October 31, 1944, and after more training to France on February 1, 1945. He was, killed in action, in heavy fighting in the vicinity of Gollhopen, Germany.
