Former Kansas Senator Dies Topeka
G Clay Baker, Topeka, who served in the state Senate from 1925 until 1933, died yesterday at a Topeka nursing home. He was 76. Baker, a lawyer, was elected to the State Senate in 1924 and won re-election in 1928. He was chairman of the Senate's roads and highway system committee. Baker also was a former Shawnee County Commissioner and a former commissioner of the state workman's compensation department. Baker was born in LeRoy Kansas, and had lived in Topeka since 1905. He operated a dairy farm near Berryton.

George Clay Baker was born Feb 15, 1896 in LeRoy Coffey Co KS, the son of John Henry Baker and Nancy Thorton Baker. He was the husband of Ruth Rodeen whom he married July 31 1924. They had no children. He was elected under the Republican Party, to the Kansas State Senate in 1924 at age 28, the youngest person at that time to ever have held that office. In 1928 he was elected for a second term, being the first person in 27 yrs in Shawnee Co to have accomplished this. He became the first Commissioner of Kansas Workers Compensation in 1929.
