Actor. Nichols began his career as an entertainer in the Army during World War II. After his discharge, he attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and while working as a song-and-dance man at the Players Theater, director Howard Hawks cast Nichols in a small part in the comedy 'I Was a Male War Bride' (1949). Among other films he appeared in were 'The Thing' (1951), 'The Red Badge of Courage' (1951), 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953), 'The Command' (1954), 'Giant' (1956), 'Come Fly with Me' (1963), 'The Trouble with Girls' (1969) and 'Wicked, Wicked' (1973). On the Broadway stage he starred in 'Take Me Along', 'Showboat' and 'Ragtime'. On television, among shows he was featured in were 'The Lone Wolf', 'My Little Margie', 'Mike Hammer', 'The Real McCoys', 'The Donna Reed Show', 'Bonanza', 'The Addams Family', 'The Big Valley', 'Green Acres' and 'Gunsmoke'. Nichols, whose final appearance on film was in 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' in 1993, died at his home from heart failure. (bio by: Louis M.)
