David Webster enlisted as a Private in Company D of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on September 23, 1861, for 3 years of service. He was taken prisoner during the action in the "Wheatfield" at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 2, 1863. David was on detached service with Company F of the First Michigan Infantry, by order, July 2, 1864, Petersburg, Virginia and then discharged at the expiration of his term of service on January 5, 1865, at Detroit, Michigan.
