Note: 23 Mar 2005-Information from the second part of "The Clay Family "The Genealogy of the Clays'" Mrs. Mary Rogers Clay, John P. Morton and Company, Louisville, Kentucky, Printers to the Filson Club 1889-"Was a soldier of the Revolution, enlisting at sixteen years of age. He made application for a pension October 10, 1832, at which time he was residing in Granger County, Tennessee, and was seventy-two years old. His pension was allowed for seven months' actual service as a private, and one month's service as a Sargeant in the Virginia troops, Revolutionary War. Part of the time he served under Captain Mosely and Colonel Robert Goode. He enlisted in Chesterfield County, Virginia. (Bureau of Pensions, Washington, D.C.)"

William Clay applied for revolutionary pension while living in Grainger County, Tennessee, in 1832. He was born in Chesterfield County, Va., in 1700 [sic]. He enlisted in Chesterfield County, in 1776. at the age of sixteen
He moved to Amelia County, Va., where he again enlisted in 1781. He served in the Seige of Yorktown. A few years alter the Revolution he moved to Halifax County,Va., where he lived until 1793 when he moved to Washington County, Va., and from thence in 1794 to Grainger County, Tenn., where he resided until his death Aug., 4, 1841.
His widow, Rebecca Clay, applied for pension in August 1843, while living in Anderson County, Tenn. She states that she was married to William Clay in Halifax County, Va., Dec., 30. 1788, in her father's house and that her name
was Rebecca Comer. Her father was Samuel Comer. She states that her son, Hon Clement Comer Clay of Alabama, was born Dec., 17, 1792; Nancy, born Sept., 18, 1794; William, born July 18, 1794; Cynthia, born Dec,, 15, 1789; Maacha, born
June 18, 1802, and Samuel Anderson, born March 29, 1805.
