Mrs. Elizabeth Shoup Phillips, wife of Jobe Phillips, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Benjamin Shoup, East Greene street, Tuesday morning, January 25, at 3:20 o'clock, following a hemorrhage of the brain which resulted in a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Phillips had been in failing health for some time and had spent the past year in St. Petersburg, Florida, but her condition was not considered serious. She was called home the first of December on account of the illness and subsequent death of her father. She was planning to return to Florida soon, accompanied by her husband and mother, where they would join their daughter, Mrs. Eva Phillips, who holds a position in an office in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Phillips was born April 16, 1882, at Ruff creek, and was aged 44 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church and took an active interest in church work. Beside her husband and mother, Mrs. Alice Courtwright Shoup, she leaves one daughter, Miss Eva Phillips, of St. Petersburg, Florida.
