JOHN SCHMIDT

John B. Schmidt, 69, retired for the past eight years, died after a lingering illness Tuesday afternoon at his home, 913 S. 15th St., Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Reedsville Funeral Home and at 9:30 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. The Rev. Michael Fetko will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Schmidt was born Dec. 14, 1882, in the town of Cato and on Nov. 4, 1907, married Sophia Staudinger. They farmed for 37 years in the Town of Cato and eight years ago came to Manitowoc. The deceased operated a tavern at Reedsville for two years. He was treasurer of the
Quarry Riverside Telephone Company for 12 years, and also a member of the Holy Name Societies of St. Mary Church of Clarks Mills and St. Boniface of Manitowoc.

Survivors include his wife, four sons, Bernard and Leo of Manitowoc, Gordon of Rt. 2, Reedsville and John of Rt., 4, Manitowoc; seven daughters, Mrs. Norman Gustavson and Mrs. John Hodzinski of Sheboygan; Mrs. Paul Behnke of Milwaukee, Mrs. Herman Strobl and Mrs. Harold Tetzlaff of Appleton and Mrs. Joseph Mrotek and Mrs. Allen Backhaus of Manitowoc;
six brothers, Andrew and George of Phlox, Wis., Louis of Valders, Joseph of Rt. 1, Valders, and Peter and Albert of Manitowoc; and 28 grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Reedsville Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Wednesday where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
