Obituary:Robert Clark Evans

Taken from Effingham Democrat, Thursday, May 1 1919
Submitted by: Arnetia Bannick Osborn.

Robert Clark Evans was born Nov. 26th, 1851, and departed this life April 22nd 1919, age 67 years 5 months and 2 days. He was married to Frances Trapp, to this union were born four children, twins who died in infancy, Mrs. Ollie Woody, of near Eberle and Leslie Evans of Overton, Neb. Mrs. Evans departed this life in 1877. He was then married to Mrs. Eliza Tharp, Feb. 4th, 1879. To this union was born but one child, Theron of Eberle. He was a member of the Bethsaida Christian Church, although of late years he has not been an active member he was a very strong advocate of the cause of Christ. He has been a member of Eberle Lodge No. 497 offices of the lodge, having attended the grand lodge of Ill., has been in the merchantile business at Eberle for about 27 years at first as a member of the firm of Jacobs and Evans. This of its self beside his volume of business would prove a life that has spoken for itself. For the last year he has been compelled to retire from active business on account of ill health, constantly growing weaker until death came as a relief on about date. He leaves to mourn their loss a devoted wife, one brother Henry of Calaway, Neb., three sisters, Jane McGee of Clay Co., Amanda McKnelly of Clay Co., and Rhumani Rentfrow of Oklahoma: three children, fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Bethsaida Christian Church, Friday morning, Rev. O.O. Maxfrield, of Dieterich assisted at the grave by the I.O.O.F. lodge, using their beautiful service. The massived crowd in attendance gave evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. Evans was held.

Card of thanks,

May Heaven reward all friends and neighbors for your help and kindness during the distressing days.
